Jackie Robinson George Shuba Statue

Owner: City of Youngstown

Role: General Contractor

Project Value: $137K

"A Handshake for the Century" located in the Raymond John Wean Foundation Park in Youngstown, OH, memorializes the first moment a white player (Youngstown native, George "Shotgun" Shuba) shook hands with a black player (Jackie Robinson).  Sculptor Marc Mellon captured this historic moment in a seven-foot, bronze statue.

The project included site development, electrical work, concrete foundations, concrete flatwork, a tiered concrete wall system as well as the setting of the statue.  Upon completion of this project, there was a ceremony to dedicate the statue for the 75th anniversary of the handshake.
